A late Victorian Fry's Choice Chocolate mahogany and glazed shop display cabinet, the outswept pediment over an etched glass front, with a Royal coat of arms and "By Special Royal Appointment", with a rear sliding door, enclosing a single shelf, and brackets for a further shelf, raised on a plinth base carved with JS Fry & Sons Limited, 67cm high, 71cm wide, 39cm deep.

Michael Brian Seirton (1937-2025)
Oscar winner Michael Seirton was born in Derby on 1st November 1937. In his early career he worked at a scrap metal yard but his artistic talents and interest in the performing arts eventually took him to Derby Playhouse, where he became a set designer.
Eventually he moved to work in London’s West End and there he started his friendship and collaborative work with the well-known production designer Terence Marsh (1931-2018). Michael subsequently followed Marsh to Hollywood and became immersed in the movie industry.
They worked on films together such as The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, plus many others.
Michael Seirton won an Academy Award (Oscar) for his set direction on the film Gandhi (1982), directed by Lord Richard Attenborough. He was also nominated for an Oscar for his work on the film Reds (1981) directed by Warren Beatty.
Michael’s film credits are numerous and further include set direction work on Fallen, Laws of Attraction, The Legend of Bagger Vance, Diabolique, Sommersby, My Cousin Vinny, Nuns on the Run, Cry Freedom, Gorky Park and The Corn is Green.
In later life he took to writing and illustrating books.
Michael Seirton passed away in February 2025 at his home in Netherseal, South Derbyshire where he lived for many years and was a much loved and respected member of the community.
